DALLAS, Texas (February 23, 2026) – The Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center welcomed Gigi Coleman, the great-niece of pioneering aviator Bessie Coleman, as the featured guest for its 2026 Black History Month celebration.

Over two days, students, educators, and families gathered at the NAEC to learn about the remarkable legacy of Bessie Coleman, the first African American and first Native American woman to earn an international pilot’s license. Through personal stories passed down within her family, Gigi Coleman brought history to life while encouraging young people to pursue their own dreams, no matter the obstacles.

Her message of perseverance, courage, and determination perfectly complemented the NAEC’s mission to Honor the Past and Empower the Future. By connecting students with the inspiring story of one of aviation’s greatest trailblazers, the event demonstrated how history can motivate the next generation of innovators, leaders, and aviation professionals.

The celebration also featured educational activities, exhibits, and opportunities for visitors to explore the lasting impact of African Americans in aviation and aerospace. As part of its ongoing commitment to aviation education, the NAEC was honored to provide students and families with an unforgettable opportunity to learn directly from a member of the Coleman family.
