Calling all middle schools, get ready for takeoff!
We are thrilled to invite your campus to be among the first to experience our brand-new, interactive mechanical training program called Ground School Jr. This is a mix of STEM education, hands-on physics, and career exploration. It focuses on the theory of how planes stay in the air, how to read the sky, and how to speak the "language" of pilots. This pilot program is designed to spark curiosity and build foundational engineering skills through immersive, high-energy learning.
Program Highlights:
Our 2-hour sessions are designed for students in Grades 6–8 (5th grade inclusive if part of your MS campus). Each session features the following core hands-on activities:
-
Aerodynamics (The "How"): Students learn the four forces of flight—Lift, Weight, Thrust, and Drag. They explore wing shapes (airfoils) and how moving parts like flaps and rudders control the plane.
-
Meteorology (The Weather): This covers how to read weather maps, understand cloud formations, and recognize how wind and air pressure affect a flight’s safety.
-
Navigation & Math: Students use tools like an E6B flight computer (a specialized circular slide rule) to calculate speed, fuel usage, and travel time. They also learn to read aeronautical charts, which are like high-tech road maps for the sky.
-
Communication: Learning the "Phonetic Alphabet" (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie...) and the basics of how pilots talk to Air Traffic Control.
